Annual General Meeting
Every year, DUCA provides its Members with an opportunity to vote for our Credit Union's Board of Directors and to participate in the Annual General Meeting. The following communication was sent to Members by email the day after the 2019 Annual General Meeting.
On April 18, 2019, approximately 250 Members, Guests, and Staff attended DUCA’s Annual General Meeting at Le Parc in Thornhill to hear Tom Vandeloo, Board Chair, Doug Conick, President and CEO, and the Executive Leadership Team report on DUCA’s 2018 financial and corporate performance.
As was reported at the AGM, 2018 was a year of excellent results with DUCA leading Ontario's top 11 credit unions in a number of key areas. In 2018, we were at the forefront of our Credit Union peers in asset growth. With a 21.5% increase, DUCA is now the fastest-growing large credit union in Ontario. In addition, Doug Conick was thrilled to report that DUCA added over 6,000 new Members last year -- an indication of the value the Credit Union provides on a daily basis.
In addition to a report on DUCA's 2018 performance, attendees heard about the future: A commitment to build on the current momentum, to extend our reach in Ontario, and to continue growing our Membership base.
Members continue to show their engagement with DUCA as the total number of votes (by both ballot and through online voting) increased in 2018 from prior years. The results of the latest Board of Directors Election are as follows:
- Re-elected for another term as Directors: Anne-Marie Thomas (92% of votes) and Jeffrey Hogan (88% of votes)
- Newly elected to the Board of Directors: Frans Amelink (88% of votes) and Steve Dobronyi (78% of votes)
Anthony (Tony) Niessen, former DUCA Director and Corporate Secretary, retired in November 2018. Tony was recognized and thanked for his years of dedication to DUCA and for his leadership, demonstrated through his chairmanship of the Governance and Credit Committees as well as his participation on other Committees.
Henry Buikema was also thanked for his 15 years of service on DUCA's Board of Directors. Henry has been a tireless worker, contributing to the Credit, Audit, and Risk Committees over the years. Both Board Chair, Tom Vandeloo, and Board Advisor, Martin van Denzen, spoke for all DUCA when they thanked Henry and wished him well going forward.
The last item on the evening's agenda was the Question and Answer period where Members addressed their questions directly to DUCA's leadership. As usual, the level of participation during the Q & A—as well as the number of comments and questions submitted in advance of the AGM through the pre-AGM survey—indicate Members' strong level of engagement with DUCA.
